Hi,
If you cancel Sky, keep your dish on 28E and leave your ex subs card in the receiver all you will get are all the free to air chanels, plus a handful of ftv ones (Fiver, five us, Sky 3, not sure what else). The FTA channels on 28E are listed here somewhere:- FlySat United Kingdom TV Channels Just the channels on 28.2E and 28.5E If you got a FTA receiver instead, you'd get the same less the FTV channels, but you could put them in any order.

Also in urgent need of help. Just installed a new French TV about 18kms east of Montpellier. We have the Orange Livebox which only gives us French programmes. What do I have to do to get Free To Air? We have a satellite dish which appears to be working but was put up for the original French owners of the house. Going over to UK in January. What should I buy i.e. manufacturer and card?
Thanks for any help. |

Any digital satellite receiver will do for FTA.
For Freesat, any one of the FREESAT receivers will be OK. (Argos sell them) For a generic box, try the CLarke Tech 3100+ or the Technomate 5400CI+. ( Both nice receivers, I have used them both, the CT looks nicer) The Clarke Tech is German, and thus may be avaialable locally in France or over the border in Germany. Southern satellite sells them both. These also are PVR ready with the addition of a USB HDD. Also the dish will need swiveling round to 28E from 5W (probably) and the LNB skew adjusted.

Thank you so much Robbo. Sorry to be a pain but this is all new to me. We have the Orange decoder box which is coming through our broadband and telephone system. Will this, in conjunction with the satellite dish (once it is orientated correctly) pick up Free To Air or do we still need another box?

I don't know what the Orange box is, but you need a satellite receiver, to watch TV via the dish.
