Problem updating Eurovox EX5000 pvr

Hi , has trawled all through this forum , a few people seem to have had the same problem but no one has come up with a solution so im starting a new thread as my other post has gone unreplied

I got my eurovox in september , it needed upgrading to the latest firmware

I ve downloaded the firmware and followed the guides on here to the letter but for some reason the laptop wont get any response from the eurovox!!!

I ve tried two different usb to serial leads , gave up on them and have now spent £30 on a pcimia to serial adaptor that plugs in the laptop and still getting the same problem , i ve also used three different null modem leads that were supplied with these so its not that.

I ve tried using four different com ports 1,2,3 and 4 but it always does the same thing. The firmware will just say waiting for a response and nothing happens

The only solution i ve found on here is to keep turning the eurovox on and off but this hasnt worked for me either ,

Only thing i can think of is that it is possibly a cloned box and the firmware doesnt work with it but judging by what others have said the firmware would still work it might just brick the box but it wont even get that far

If someone has a solution i would be most grateful , i could just about bear the annoying voice overs , hey its free tv after all , but having to put the codes in everyday is getting on my nerves now

well if u have any mates with a desktop pc just takeit to theirs and use a null modem cable and away u will go . i dont know why peeps have problems with laptops but they do so just try it on a desktop pc (one of ur mates should have one ) and dont spend any more money on cables etc etc ur just waisting ur money

and if umanage to do get a desktop pc dont use any usb leads etc etc just a normal £3 null modem cable will do

and also u say uve turned the eurovox on and off and that doesnt work
well if u have the power plug in just haveit on standby and see if that helps sometimes once uve got everything connected up u might need to do a quick restart of ur laptop (but have everything connected and eurovox on standby) and once laptop restarted then try to flash firmware, (standby shouldnt really make a difference but in these situations anything is worth a try)

just a thought, have you installed drivers you got with usb adapter (i imagine thats what your useing)

the firmware should still work on the cloned box, it does on mine, i would imagine when new firmware is brought out though this will be when problems with these clones arise!
