Default Question on Receiver Compatability

Hello. I have a question on the compatability of FTA servers with different televisions, and I'm hoping that someone out there will have an answer. I was recently in a store that sells FTA supplies, and the information I was given does not seem reasonable. I figured that I would try to verify it before acting on it.

I was told that if I purchase a high-definition FTA receiver that I would need a television that has 1080 resolution in order to view high-definition broadcasts, and that a 768 would not do the trick, though I could use a 768 television if I go with an FTA receiver that is digital but not high-definition. Does this make sense? Is it true?

I am grateful for any help that anyone can render. Thank you.

Gary

No, it is utter tosh.

Generally HD tv transmissions are at 1080i but a 720 progressive display actually gives a better picture unless you have a very large screen.

The only thing that matters is how far you sit from your tv screen and how large the screen is. If you have a 50" screen or larger and sit closer than about 10 feet then you will notice a difference because you will see the individual pixels, assuming you have 20:20 vision.

i agree a 720p tv which is classed as hd ready will work. a tv that handles 1080i or 1080p is classed as full hd. either way both will give you high def pics so dont worry as long as its at least hd ready.
