Unhappy the box super flash filed

Hi all ,after trying umpteen times to flash the latest firmware fix to the box super version 8.02e and failing each time i really do need some help from someone with more knowledge than me,i am using a maplins l17bt null cable connected directly to the 9 pin serial port on the back of my desktop pc,i ensure that whichever com port selected in the gt rom firmware loader matches the one in the com port in my device manager on my pc i hit the download button and nothing happens and then the flash update failed box appears, this null cable is the 3rd one that i have tried now and i am about at my wits end,i have honestly been trying to fix this box for 2 weeks now,can anyone give me any ideas as to what i might be doing wrong or is there something i am missing,i really would be very grateful if anyone can help me,cheers.

Are you using a direct cable or is the l17bt an adapter?

also, are you using Vista?

my guess, its your nmc thats no good .rs232 cables look the same as nmc,s but are wired differently. had the same problem, got one from skywonder, £2.99,ppfree, 2 days...
dont trust the maplins one.. btw, why have you tried 3 cables? & are they all from maplins?

Unhappy Re: the box super flash filed

Hi all thanks for the replies,i have used 2 different leads from ebay and an l17bt from maplins and none of them will flash the box,i am using xp on a desktop pc and have connected the cables directly from the back of the pc from the serial port to the serial port on the box super,i am beginning to think that the connector on the back of the pc is failing so im gonna try and change the l17bt for the 9 pin usb adaptor and try it that way,i would like to know however do these ebay leads need drivers to make them work and if so where do you get them from and how do you download them ?

Do not use the L17bt, it's a Gender Changer!

Go back to using a female to female 9 pin Null modem cable if your using a desk top PC

Use COM1 (if it's not on COM1 then stitch it to COM1)
Flash the box in standby mode, if that doesn't work then leave the box switched off until you press download (you may have to switch it on and off a few times for it to respond), if that doesn't work then try leaving your box switched on through out the whole process.

(also, the only thing that should be connected to your box is the NMC and power lead, nothing else)

If the above doesn't work then come back :-)
