Default floppy disks

Hi Guys

I was setting up a network on my PC and at the end of the process It had options of writing disks to setup the network on my other devices (well at least I think that is what it does)

anyway I put in a floppy dish and It does not detect the disk
Im just wondering If the floppy disk driver was never installed

Can anyone help?

The guy That made this PC was a cowboy and Did a lot of substandard work in my town,

My last PC he took off the internet security without telling us and we fooked up our PC with virus's(well that's what he told us)

And my PC ATM is very noisy, It is like its run on a petrol motor!

Anyway can some one help m,e with the floppy disk!
Thanks in advance

edit: my running system is XP if that useful

Try other floppy disks, some aren't easily recognized.
There are no real drivers for a floppy drive, all the information is stored in the drives firmware.
Go into My Computer and see if the A (Floppy Drive) is listed.

Failure to detect a floppy disc usually indicates the disc is kaputt.

Ok I put the disk into the into the slot and clicked the above and it just came up "insert disk" I took out the dish and put it in again(while leaving the message up) and reinserted the disk and noting happened!

You may find the motherboard doesnt support floppy drives - things have moved on so far from the days of the floppy manufacturers have started to drop floppy support via the mobo.

You could try making a disc with a usb flash drive instead

Im now pretty sure that I wont need to make that program, still interested in why the floppy don't work!

the program (network setup) says that it must be a floppy disk but im sure Il manage without!

Check the green light on the Floppy drive, it should only come on after you've inserted a floppy disk, if it's on all the time then the chances are that the cable has been connected upside down, if it doesn't come on at all then the power connector probably isn't connected correctly.

Check the ribbon cable connections - the red stripe end should be on pin 1 on both connectors.

If the cable isnt keyed so it can only go in one way its easy to put the connector in the wrong way round at one end.
