All day yesterday my chipped modem was down yesterday.Is this a fault with modem, or was there a general problem with Virgin internet. This happened before,I switched off and switched back on after 5 hrs and it was working.Tried on this occasion no luck. I have Ambit 250 modem.

Can anyone advise how to put it right if it is modem or point me in direction to do something about it

Could be your mac needs changing on the modem.
Or it could be that you need to untick force config and check your tftp ip hasn't changed.

There are plenty of threads already started to help you with these issues.
Start by checking these first.
