Default NTL 250 modem guidance needed

Hi guys,

I urgently need ur expert help. I've got this modem from a m8 which went down in his house (was working fine previously). I would appreciate if you could give me some simple instructions on what to do to get it back.

Connections by USB successful, but asks for software/drivers cd
LAN connection okay,
Unable to access 192.168.100.1 (site says Infinite) requires password and don't have username/password
I don't have Max232 cable just a USB connection to the modem
I don't have subscription as present
I did have in the past.

I would be grateful if you could get me some info on that.

Also where to get the MAC from and what steps are needed to change them?
How do I use DHCP sniffer?
I was using a Linksys router connected to modem, can I still do that or connect directly?
Do I change MAC on all the computers /notebooks at home or just one?

Thank you to all in advance for reading and helping.

Cheers

Everything you have asked is answered by reading the sticky threads.
In particular Haynes Cable Guide.

192.168.100.1 on Infinite will only allow you minimal modem settings.
To change the mac and check your tftp ip settings you use 250 Configurator tool.

Ignore use of the usb port if you are able to use Ethernet, no drivers required.

okay so I managed to find haynes guide after doing a search in yahoo. Not sure if I'm allowed to post the link to another site for it.

From haynes guide I found out generic password and have successfully logged onto the modem. . In software section it says compliant to DOCSIS 2.0 and HARDWARE version 3349 alongwith Modem MAC Address. Network Access: Denied. (I have not yet connected the modem to cable). BTW in Connection section under Configuration File it shows status "In Progress". Is this because it's not connected to the cable or some other reason?

I'm still trying to get my head round it. I don't have the max232 cable so gotta find out how i can get some new macs and tftpip and get it to work. Its already been about 2 hours . Any advice, feel free to give me guys. lol

Thanks.

okay, so i've got the configurator 250 but cannot connect since the username/password is incorrect. I can connect using IE but not via telnet. Does this mean the usr/pwd was changed when flashed origianlly? Is there a way to get back into it or would I have to flash it again? If so can that be done via LAN or does it have to be max232 cable?

Many thanks in advance.

If you've tried the default Infinite user and password and it failed to let you in then it may have been changed by your vendor. Check with your vendor for current user and password. Check the underside of the modem or you're stuck with connection via max232 serial only.

still looking for some help guys.

I have not been able to connect to the modem but I am gonna get a MAX232 cable to flash it again. If i plug this online it can't go online. I can access the modem via IE and some bits are as follows:

EVENT LOG:
Critical: No Ranging response received - T3 timed out
Received response to broadcast maintenance request but no un
TFTP failed - request sent - No Response
DHCP WARNING: Non-critical filed invalid in response

SOFTWARE Page
DOCSIS 2.0
MAC Address....
Network Access: Denied
IP address xxxxxxxx

CONNECTION
Connectivity State: in progress
Boot state: Waiting for TFTP
Security: Disabled.

Any advise guys? If its simply putting in new M*C even then i'm stuck cuz can't go online to check for any.

Thanks in advance

You do not need to flash it again.
This could cause you more headaches!

All you need to do is buy a max232 serial hardware and Ambit specific cable and connect to the modem that way.
