My computer has just thrown a wobbly and the display is an hour glass shape across the centre 1/3 of the screen with the window controls top and bottom off the screen, anyone come across this or know how to fix it?
Thanking you in anticipation. Lookerupper ![]() X |

Is it a laptop or a PC with monitor ?
Have you tried a reboot - if you can still operate it try a blind shutdown (CTRL-ALT-DEL (task manager), ALT-U (shutdown), U (turn off)). Does the boot screen (whatever it is on you PC) show correctly? Can you enter Safe Mode during boot and set the display properties (rightclick on the desktop, properties) from there? |

a big fat mofo of a thing that belongs in a museum!!
And yes it is pincushioning, only when windows (XP) has started up, i.e it's OK during boot up so I'm assuming it's a problem/setting in windows. I get the usual windows is staring and then the system seems to flicker and the display comes back on extremely pincushioned. Lookerupper |

hmmm.....graphics drivers then. Have you altered your resolution at all?
Have you tried degaussing it? There should be a button somewhere. It may be indicated with a >.< symbol (or something similar). But i do think its driver related. As nvingo said, try booting into safe mode (usually F8 on dos screen at bootup) |

You cannot alter the display in safe mode as the drivers aren't loaded.
If it's working fine in Safe Mode then try deleting the Graphics Card drivers and let windows find them on re-booting. Right click on My Computer and left click on Properties. Click on Hardware and Device Manager. Look for the Display Adapters listing and delete the graphics card. Restart you8r computer and let Windows find the drivers. |
