My cousin brought a starview box several months ago and seeing how i'm the computer one he asked me to update it on Monday as he had to keep manually inputting Keys after the Dec 4th?-ish change.
Anyway, he says the seller he brought it from assured him when he brought it that it was a genuine Starview 2, it says "The Box" on the front and has 20 x 8 vent arrangement on the top and looks just like a Starview 2, Starview 2 remote and Packaging. I flashed it with both 4.55 and 8.02e firmwares and after a reboot it just hangs on the forth LCD segement and displays "The Box" logo on the screen. Flashing the Background Data logo causes the four LCD Segments to roll. I proceeded to try all firmwares for Starview 2, 4.51, 4.52, 4.53 using the bad flash method, with each update failing to boot. About to give up and go into research mode my cousin says he recalls that the original working firmware was 4.00. That odd I think, sounds like Starview 1. So I try Cryptstar 1.5 (400 core for original boxes) on there and it works first time, boots up and scans etc and it's working fine. I'm guessing it's a starview 1 in a starview 2 case? I didn't take it apart any further to investigate but I was wondering if anyone had ever seen anything like it before. |

Hi,
I have come across the same situation with a friends starview 2 the box, vents don't add up but all the rest in same place. I was unable to view existing firmware as box had hung up (frozen). I have done the exact same as youslef and only the othe rnight it flashed with cryptstar, I am going to take around to his place so I can scan it for him, hop it works. |
