Dream Box 500S

Hello friends,

I am Praful. I am glad to join this club ( Techwatch ) , hopping to gain more knowledge. This is my first post .


I have DM 500 S ( in India, bought it in India ) and I am getting Di** T* all channels whose frequency start with 11.... , while scanning I am getting few channels frequency starts with 12..... but no pictures ( in 12 series e.g. HBO 12729V ). Channels I am getting is with quality and signals 87%.

I am aiming at NSS6. 95 E , for Dishtv. please see the Lyngsat web site

I have tried to add new channel ( Like HBO ) but no result AEG is 0 only for all 12 series channels !!individual TP even will not lock.

tried with 22KHz off/on/Hi-Lo but no result , If I switch on "wait till Tuner locks " and it never does .

I like to install gemini 4.2 but then I was told "NO " as gemini has no var file and CCcam , Channel list will go in to var file ,I got different opinion , !! I am confuse now !!! what to do ?

so far I have this suggestion ,,

1. LNB is not working ....so I replaced with Dish TV, universal, single LNB
2. Dish is not set right ,....I called proffetional and they sat it is OK

I don't use card service but one forum charge fee ,and they give Cline , you install and watch DishTV( India ), or Sri lanka TV or Afican TV one price for all three

at this point I have done factory setting.



I want to install Gemini4.2 or what ever fits to this Clone DM 500 S,appropriate CCcam. and get 11 and 12 series channels ,according to forum where I paid fees, I should get all channels ( please see Lyngsat website )

My seting:
NSS6, 95 E, Dish TV.
LNB is universal single.
L/F 09750
L/H 10600
Thresh hold 11,700

I will appreciate any ...any help

Please know that I am in India and trying to set up Dream Box DM 500S in India

Be very careful of which versions of Gemini you load - the later ones will kill clone Dreambox 500s's

First of all - whats the highest frequency you can successfully receive channels off?

I want to use 4.2 Gemini 4.2 ( which I know is safe for clone box )
I am getting 11037 H, and 11172H

but not getting ( and I am suppose to get )

From 12535 V( sr. 47000 ) to 12729 ( sr 27000 )

Well...Well,

Finally I have screwed the BOx by mistake I overlap two images and now box is dead .
when power ..only red light in front of the box!!
so j tag( ? ) !! can you help me how to do J tag step by step ? I am going to buy J tag cable from E bay ( any other good and reliable place you know for getting J tag cable for Dream Box ? )

You can't overlap two images, but you can install a new image and fail to complete the install. You dont need a jtag. Use Dreamup connected via a null modem cable. Disable the lan install by unticking the box and then install erase.img to tidy up the flash of the Dreambox.

Then install a new image and I would strongly recommend the Nabilosat Dark Star2 maxvar image. The Gemini images are very good but not as good as the Nabilosat IMHO. The 500 has a very limited flash memory space and the maxvar image allows for that.

Providing you have the Dreambox connected to the internet, Nabilosat allows downloading of plugins etc and includes a lot that gemini do not.

I will try to get Null modem cable ,
I am using PLi image
I have few version of dream up but none of them works , after "now connect box " instruction in Dreamup nothing happens no progress or nothing , might be cable , I am using ... cable look like ..

any idea why on my PC dream up dosn't work ? anything to do with window XP edition ? which version of Dream up you suggest ?
Just for knowledge when do you need to J tag ?

Universal Dreamup 1.3.3.2 should be ok and downloadable from Dream Multimedia.

If you dont have a null modem cable it wont work. You could try the lan network connection method but more often than not, a lan install causes problems.

After getting the message 'now connect ...', plug the mains into your Dreambox and you should see the connection starting. Make sure you have selected the correct COM port. Dreamup wont tell you if you have the wrong port, it just wont work. Then when connected, select your preferred image and select flash. Then go and make a cup of tea or two or go down the pub. The image install takes quite a while via a serial connection. It may seem that nothing is happening if you sit and watch it.

The only time a jtag is needed is if the hard coded boot file has been lost or corrupted and that is rare unless you try Gemini or a newish Dream image on a clone.
