Default tv not scanning freeview

Got a 19" lcd flatscreen tv for daughters xmas with the freeview built in, unfortunatey when try to scan it in the DTV mode it is not picking up any channels at all , it scans through to 100% and does not pick any up. I have manually scanned it and got the 5 terrestrial channels as well as 5 or 6 others. Does anyone have any idea why it will not scan anything in the DTV mode.
I have an ariel splitter running from the living room to daughters room.

The tv is a Technika LCD191D-107/207
Got it from a company on e-bay and the instructions are a bit limited as regards troubleshooting and ther is nothing at all about failure to scan in the DTV mode.
Any info would be appreciated, thanks

Well first of all take the aerial splitter out of the setup and try scanning again with the tv connected directly to the aerial. If its a "Y-splitter" you are losing over half the signal just with that inserted.

The channels should stay - however if you have a signal / cable problem then chances are they wont be watchable!
