I have been trying to set up an Xbox live account for my brother in law. He has the wireless network adapter for his xbox an Ntl cable modem and a TP-link W642G v3 Router.
First I turned all three devices off. Plugged the network adapter in the back of his 360 and then rebooted all three. I then accessed network settings and could see the router listed but when doing the test it failed. I have everything setup as shown on the MS site and also tried it again using their interactive guide. Ran the test again and it failed. I then connected the xbox direct to the router using an ethernet cable. That connected straight away and we were able to access xbox live and it's content. After he had a look at it we tried agin to set it up using the wireless adapter. Started from the beginning and agin followed each step as shown on the MS site. tested and again it failed. Tried it again and again and again and each time it failed. Where are we going wrong? I really don't understand what is wrong with it. We have followed every step and it fails. We rang MS support and to be honest they were hopeless. I'm hoping that someone here can help in getting this setup. We did download the latest dashboard update and installed it. |

Try assigning a manual IP address to the console, your router might not be able to assign a DHCP address. Have you disabled NAT? Most routers don't function with Live properly if NAT is enabled.

Definitely going through the wireless option on the console and yes the wireless is encrypted and I have put the WEP key in each time going through the setup, but it still fails. Quote:
Honest I have gone through the MS site and followed each step and I just can't see why it's failing. With the amount of reading I've done I should be able to set it up blindfolded, but for whatever reason it just ain't happening. 2pm 28/12 Just come back from trying it again having, taken another family member who has an xbox live account and uses it daily. He took his adapter and tried to configure his to work on the xbox. His failed too! The connection is visible on screen, we can see the SSID, when we connect it asks for the WEP key. We put that in and try to connect, it fails. I have tried things on the router but nothing I have done is working. So far I have enabled MAC filtering, added the mac address of the adapter/xbox and enabled access. That failed. Turned off the WEP key, disabling security to the router allowing anyone access and it still failed. I can only think that it's ikely to be something really simple, a box on the router settings which needs to be checked or unchecked, but everything I have tried has failed. I've suggested my brother in law take his, router, xbox and adapter into the shop where he purchased the router and see if the guy in the shop can configure it. I had a look on the TP-link website, but there is no support on there for the problem connecting Xbox live. If anyone can make a suggestion before he ends up resorting to taking it all to the shop for help I would apprecite it. cheers. Last edited by welshbhoy; 28-12-08 at 02:07 PM. Reason: more info. |

I have the exact same router you need to create a static ip on your xbox 360 for the wireless adapter and then start a DMZ (DMZ is in your router OS 192.168.1.1) server and enter that static IP. I've done it and it worked. That way it will change your NAT status from restricted to none at all to fully open.
