Default Bad start

Hi all
Have latest fw on my laptop ready to plug in brand new EX5000PVR. Got null modem connected between both, but when I hit download on the UFL it just keepos searching and can't seem to find my box. I t just keeps searching for COM1 etc.
If I click Start it asks if I want to dl the fw in boot mode as the receiver is not detected. Is this a wise move and is so which COM do I select 1,2,3 or 4?

I have tried unplugging everything and reconnecting the null modem, but still nothing.

I have already checked if it's a clone, and it comes out as not a clone.

Is it just crap bad luck and a possible bad cable?

Thanks for any help

Dingo

Thanks Gus - looks like I'm not alone. I tried all that, but nothing.

I'll keep plugging away though, as mine is without the USB connector, I don't know if that mnakes any difference.

Cheers for the help.

Hi again

Still no joy -is there any point in buying a USB to RS232 adaptor in case the laptop isn't playing ball with the serial port in?

Any advice that doesn't involve spending lots of cash for cable I thought In ha is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Tried about 10 times Honcho - even tried it whilst trying to pat my head and rub my stomach - nothing.

Been searching everywhere and someone suggested reversing the cable - nothing.

How do I check I have a null modem cable and not a normal r232 cable? that seemed to be the main issue in other places.

Next stupid question - there is no driver or anything I need to install?

Only place left is find another laptop with a serial port and then go back to that every time I want to update - or buy a USB to RS232 and wait ten days for it to arrive - or buy another null modem cable and hope it's that - or just watch less telly........

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated Honcho.

Cheers mate

did u get the cable with your box? if so should be null modem
i dont think u can tell by looking at it, i think the only diffrence between them both is the pins are reversed
go find a oldish pc with a serial connection and try it on that if no joy get a new cable
and DONT try it on vista becoz vista is POOP for anything!! windows 7 is 100x beta than vista **** but xp all the way for now
