Instability was caused by MS Media Center Services still running - have found a reg hack to totally disable them.

Have now found another plugin called fortherecord, installed it and somehow all the channels have vanished/not working, so now have to go through another X hours of reading to sort that. On the verge of giving up.

For anyone with a TechnoTrend Card there is a plugin that allows you to use the remote that comes with the card to control MediaPortal with it even works over multiple cards!

Went back to VMC last night - I got fed up. I'd rather be watching TV than fiddling/reading forums. If I did go for MP, I would want a TV Server anyway, so no big loss. I might just give up completely and stuff another FireDTV in her machine.

What I could REALLY do with is a list of the "best" plugins to use for all the different things and start from there - anyone know a link or prepared to give a list?

Confused? MP does have a TV server.

As for the plugins it all depends on what you want to use it for, personally i only use the following

Quote:
TVSeries for TV Shows
MovingPictures for Movies
TTRemote Plugin
I have music and videos setup in MP also but there not plugins

Hi All,

I have a Technotrend DVB-C Card and use this within mediaportal.

Works well but i do find it doesnt always pick up all channels when scanning in Mediaportal.

I did a test and used a identical transponder file on DVBDREAM and Mediaportal.

DVB Dream picked up more channels, which I found confusing.

Also the Vplug addin works well and can update Auto but again I found this plugin more stable and easier to configure in DVB Dream then mediaportal.

I must admit the whole outlook of Mediaportal by far is better looking then DVB Dream and other TV software that i have played around with, So I am determined to configure mediaportal and get it working as I would like it to.

As many have said it is a lot of reading and time spent configure Mediaportal but the end results are worth it

Thats because MediaPortal does not support MDAPIFilter plugins, they don't want to support piracy where DVBDream does!

My TT-1501 picks up all the channels my V+ box does as does the fire DTV. What file are you using to scan with. MP 1.0 has some of the UK frequency lists. I think I its time to get a better list for UK in MP new thread though.

I now have 2 DVB-C cards one with cam, one with vplug and its stable. I had issues with the firewire card initially and replaced it with a new one and it has not fallen over for 10 hours. 2 clients, 3 clients, recordings etc all I can do at once. STBY in and out etc

I reinstalled windows and only the codecs I want, no FFD show, just cyberlink and hali.

The only plugins I use are XMLTV for the web egp and KeyboardInputPlugin for non MCE remotes as you cannot buy em anymore and my 2 year old keeps flushing them down the toilet.......

I use the basic screen, automatic My TV ON and full screen to keep it simple and its leaps ahead of that horrid Sky HD box with the most useless EPG system.....

If it stays up for a few weeks then I will buy a DVB-S2 floppy DTV and junk the Sky HD box as well.

I am pretty happy with media portal 1.0 it does it all and is stable. But it took me 9 months to get here.

My tip to starters would be clear the logs and try and break it. Trawl the logs and fix your problems I have had loads of different problems from DNS setup on my W2003 server to bad PCI cards. Never really has it been media portal, they seem to fix there bugs very quickly.

VPLUG V2.4 - Install it into the following folder on the TV Server using the install shield. Make sure you get the extra files when you download. These files are copied in and override the files extracted using the install shield.

.....\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal TV Server\MDPLUGins

You will need to make this "MDPLUGins" folder. You will also need some extra files for the "MediaPortal TV Server" folder.

FFDecsa.dll
mdapifilter.ax

you will need to register the mdapifilter.ax Make a batch file containing
"regsvr32 mdapifilter.ax" and leave the file in that directory.....

You will need a v_keys file for vplug. It does not need to be current as vplug will autoupdate. Now Vplug works in pure areas out of the box, it may work in all areas I do not know. There is a sticky vplug thread in this forum which details it if your does not work.

I do not know how to upload files so if you need some PM me with your address.

Do not forget to edit the mdapicards.xml to include only the TT1501 if you have multiple cards. This will appear in the MDPLUGins folder after each card is first initialised. I find when you have 2 cards enabled it chops the sound.

As for the transponders mine is part of the Media Portal 1.0 release. Its called NTL 6887 and should be in your pull down on the TV server config for your DVB-C card. You would have to edit it for you area. How many channels I do not now off hand. It picks up 300+ but 100 are

unknown or BBC1 comes about 10 times. also all the epgs etc
