Default Need help setting up tv,freeview, hdd media player plus home cinema

Hi there i wonder if anyone can help me get this lot set up properly.
I have a 8 yr old tv which has got 2 scart connections on the back plus a L/R audio plugs on it aswell(rear).
On the side of the tv it has a s-video,plus the standard yellow(video in) plus L/R audio plugs.

My home cinema(with built in dvd player) has no scarts just the following HDMI out,L/R audio in plus yellow plug(video out).
It also has something called component out cables red(pr),blue(pb) and green (y).
Plus it has a digital audio in(optical).

My freeview box has the standard 2 scarts but also a SPDF/out(can this be used to connect to the home cinema digital audio in(optical) maybe?

My hdd media player has only L/R audio and Yellow video connections.

Basically what i want to try and achieve is to be able to get all sound either from freeview, hdd media player,tv plus home cinema come from the home cinema speaker system.
Also of course to get picture coming thru tv from either the freeview.home cinema(dvd player) plus hdd media player.

Sorry for all the questions but i am new to all of this!

Many thanks for all your help in advance!

HI

Not been rude but unless you have a new tv you are not going to get benefit of your dvd HDMI,and you dont have a component input which is the next step down.

You can hook all your items together using SVideo, and your left and right audio.Personally I would use a switch box as your struggling for inputs.

If you can give me the make and model of the surround sound amp I will see if I can come up with something.

Leads needed.
Scart to scart
Scart to phono (6 phono to be sure you get the right one)
Audio phono to phono (red and white to red and white phono)
Video phono to phono lead( supplied with the amp, it's yellow)

Use the audio phono lead to connect the phono o/p on the TV to the phono i/p on the surround sound amp.
Yellow video o/p on the surround sound amp to the Yellow video i/p on the side of the TV.
Scart from Freeview to the scart 1 on the TV
The scart to phono lead is used to connect the HDD player to scart 2 on the TV, if it is a 6 phono lead make sure you use the corect 3 phono plugs to the HDD. It won't do any damage if you connect it the wrong way, you just won't get any sound and/or picture. This should get all your TV sound through the amp, just select the correct i/p option on the amp by pressing the AUX button on the amp r/c ( I think)

Ideally you need a TV with a HDMi i/p to get the most out of your DVD player but I'm sure you know this already.

Good luck hope it helps. Anything your not sure about then post back.

Question Re: Need help setting up tv,freeview, hdd media player plus home cinema

You say get a scart to phono(6 phono)
Does this mean scart on one end and 6 phono leads on other?
If so do i use all six leads?
What colours would they be and can i buy this sort of cable at pc world?
Sorry for all the qustions mate but just want to get it all right.

My freeview box has the standard 2 scarts but also a SPDF/out(can this be used to connect to the home cinema digital audio in(optical) maybe?

I have been told on another forum that i can connect the two together.
Do you know what lead i would need?

Scart to 6 phono has video and audio i/p and o/p and the individual cables are labeled. PC world should have them they are easy to get. You will only use 3 of the connectors. The reason I said get the 6 phono cable is so you are sure to get what you need.
Sorry forgot about the S/PDif, you just need a digital opticial lead to connect the Freeview box to the amp.

I couldn't get a scart to 6 phono lead.
Is it ok if i just use one of those scart to 3 rca adaptors as i have one of them.
Regaring the S/PDIF set up do i just plug one end of the optical lead in the freeview box and then one in amp and it will play my music ok.

By using a S/PDIF optical cable will that affect how i connect up the cables in the freeview/amp etc as i was going to connect the audio via the rca adaptor?

Only reason for suggesting to get a 6 phono is to be sure you have the right one, try the 3 phono lead if it works then great.
Using the digital opticial lead won't change the other connections but it will change the way you access the Freeview audio on the surround sound amp for best sound. Pressing the AUX button on the amp r/c toggles between the 2 i/p options. Though it should work both ways.
