Cool "Futureproof" Annoyances

Ok,
I thought, after a day of arguing with someone 20 years older than me who is flashing his cisco certs like theres no tomorrow, I thought I should have a general rant on.
I'm not really wasting time as these essays (yes thats "these" - i wont make a thing of them though) should be inspiring and give general information aswell.

Ok,
ok, Ok,

back on topic.
Future-proof

Claims are starting to be raised that boxes are future-proof. Well, I feel that there is a need to question this.

So, there are all of these rumours being flung about, litterally. I can only imagine that people are having endless conversations in their local boozers about how all of their dodgey boxes are gonna be going down. Sparking up dates and once enough people hear someone say "eeh, imagine what chaos it'd be if they turned 'em all off on christmas eve!", everyone starts believing it.

I was aware of someone telling me that there were texts going around teesside - yes thats a full (wannabe) county (and mine at that) - to turn your boxes off on a certain saturday night.

This annoys me.

It seems that these petty rumours are enough to scare people. Scare them that their precious cable boxes which they invested all of three month's cable subs are gonna go down the pan.

And then, there are people who are selling these boxes.
"This is completely future-proof" "When the encryption changes, this'll be the only box working..."
They almost try to scare the user by using words like Nagra2 and 3, and Linux. "Linux basically means that it'll be future proof."
This cable theft is conning people into buying expensive boxes that to be honest, are no more future proof than others.

That Itgate box is apparently "more" futureproof.
Ebay listings are saying it is futureproof. It isn't and can't be as nagra3 isnt hacked and sadly, it looks like that is what the future holds.

Actually, the only way in which I imagine it could be classed as more futureproof is the opensource aspect to it.

But on the subject of rumours, what's to say that this entire nagra3 thing isnt just a rumour? They may not be trialling it. They may not be looking at it. They may have even rejected it.

"But my cousin's friend's uncle's mate's brother-in-law works for virgin and says that they are gonna change"
riiiiiigggggghhhhhhhttttt.

Of course, we are right in thinking that they are gonna change encryption. But they may not. If they don't, I reckon that they will begin to loose customers very quickly. Eventually, we could have an Itv digital on our hands.

In fact, at this point, I am contemplating just deleting all of this, however I would like your opionion on this essay type thing.

Please, I don't want any stupid comments and you are welcome for wasting your time to read this.

well to be honest dont really give a feck if they go to nagra 2 or nagra 3
as there both hacked nagra 2 was done yrs ago in france and nagra 3 was done it Portugal on there sat network last week ish

but as i pay for all my vermin (on vip package)
it does not matter to me @ all i also get free sky and will have sky hd with in a few mths free as well (well upgraded free)

so in a word their encryption will change to what nagra version we dont know
will igate handle nagra 2 probably yes as long is it has a 260 ish mhz processor it should be able to handle it as for nagra 3 well i would have to look into that
to be honest but the post is good as it is wht every one should be looking into as its gona hurt alot oh peeps when they have just bought a box and hey its fecked lol

i have commented on this for a cpl oh weeks now but as normal most peeps don't care eh or just don't have a clue what the possibility's are in-store for em in te near future as when the 50 mg is fully rolled out the changes on all cable related stuff is gona be massive as the modems are gonin docs 3 well started already and in some areas
so you cant force the config eh

good post enjoyed the reading and laughed @ future proof always make me smile when i see it lol

To be honest even if I only get another 6 months out of my box it would still represent good value for money, I think anyone who thought they'd have cable for life using a eurovox is little naive.

No doubt if vermin implement changes someone will find a work around, whether this work around is as easy and affordable as the current kit that remains to be seen. I see little point in worrying about it and anyone who gets their coaxial in a twist over a possible future without their eurovox needs to have a reality check.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see a shift over to these so called futureproof boxes, may not neccessarily be a bad thing. Eurovox are well established, as long as the Eurovoxs work they will be supported with updates & firmware.

Don't know a great deal about the other makes of box but the more popular they become the greater the level of support they'll have and should the eurovoxes be rendered useless and if these "future proof" boxes can withstand anything vermin throw at them, there will be plenty of people out there to help us get up and running on them!

hi guys,,

a good post above,,

despite the many rumours,,n3 is not hacked,,not properly anyway,,put it this way if you pull the plug out of your router,,your box will stop working,,

even if they do hack a rom properly in europe/anywhere,,would they then in turn use this rom in uk??,,

n1 has used rom 10,11,and currently rom 7,,in the uk,,

n3 has just the same scope as above,,

so all we can do is wait and see,,and go from there,,

best wishes,,bumble
