Total newbie needs to know whats out there !

I am relatively new to the whole sattellite/cable scene, and after all the chat on the cable forums about Nagra3 etc and how all boxes will be going tit5 up sooner or later, i have decided to check out the viability of changing to sat !
What i need to know, and i dont want to be spoon-fed the info, but would appreciate being pointed in the right direction. Exactly what is available channel wise and where. ie : Could do with a website that lists the different sats out there and whats on them. Am also getting soooo confused with regards Cams etc. What the hell are they. The only cams i know come in pairs and power my subaru turbo noisily at excessive revs !!
I THINK I NEED HELP !

A motorised dish, is more or less essential, for the widest choice.

Also, if you are down south, 7W, or 26E are good spots too.

CAMs are Conditional Acess Modules, come in different flavours, eg Irdeto, Conax, viaccess, etc etc.
