Are you using a usb to serial conversion cable or does your laptop have a 9 pin COM1 serial port?

I am using a usb cable at the moment and it has the connection for the 9 pin too

this was my problem when i started to do mosc's , i was using a usb serial adapter & it caused so much problems. I got a 9pin-express card for my laptop & its been great

That will be the problem you will have more success with a RS232 Com Port 9 Pins PCMCIA Laptop Card Cardbus Serial. Make sure the PCMCIA is compatible with your machine available on fleabay.

Thanks lads put the card reader to my pc with a serial cable and it reads perfect. Again just like to thank all who helped with advise.
