Yes it is possible to connect a second digibox lawfully in another room without a multiroom subscription. The one shortcoming is that the second box - without a card - will only get the channels that are free. To do this, the LNB (if it is not already a Twin or a Quad) on the dish will be replaced with a Quad LNB and a second cable run from one of the extra ports on the Quad to the second box.

An alternative is simply to run a cable from the RF out of the main box to the TV; the shortcoming is that both TVs will only be able to watch the one channel at a time.

As long as he only wants the free channels he can do it easily.Apart from that he will have to do without unless he has the phone line fitted.....

You could try calling sky and ordering a multi room subscription and tell them you have your own equipment. I managed it ! even though the house has a VM phone line and neither box is connected to it.. The downside is that you will have to install the equipment yourself. But if you alrteady have a dish it isn't hard and you can get a second hand dodgybox of fleabay for a few pounds.

The phoneline is only for box office etc. Occasionaly sky do poll boxes by phoning them. You may get a letter telling you to plug your box into the phoneline. Then again you may not, you pays your money and takes your chance.

Thats incorrect - with multiroom its to ensure both boxes are being used at the same address. The boxes are instructed to ring home once a month or so. If the phones fail to dial home the letters go out after about 2 months..

It can be quite innocent why they cant phone home of course - cables dislodged, modem in one box blown by a power surge etc.

Hi Analoguesat. Don't want to get into an argument with you, especially after the help you've given me, but............

One box has been installed for 3yrs ish without a phoneline. The multiroom subscription is 6 mths old and the second box has never been connected to the phone line. I even got sky to update the box with new firmware and change the reigon settings as the box was showing central itv. Maybe i've just been lucky but not had any problems so far.

Let me be clear though, this is a genuine subscription at the same address. It's just I don't want phone extensions everywhere and don't see why I should have a sky box connected to the phone when I don't use ppv services.

At my previous address in leeds, I got rid of my bt line because I never used it. It was a waste of money, and it never gave me a problem with sky there either. Like I say maybe i've just been lucky.........
