Default Cable box questions, help needed.

Hi all,

I think I posted this in the wrong section, so I re-posted it here, as I think it's more proper place.

I'd like to use that oportunity to introduce myself as well as aks my first question. It's my first post so you all be correct assuming I'm completly green in the subject. In that situation you have to understand it's very difficult for me to browse the forum looking for information (I don't know what I suppous *spelling* to look for)

I have ntl DVB box Model PACE DC221KN. I have it with the original card (the paired one), the contract is over and it's not working. I also have other box working one with the ongoing contract in the living room). I'd like to use the spare box for my bedroom.

So my questions are:

1. Is there a way to flash the card so it will work on the box?
2. Is it required to do anything with the box?

As far as I know. I'll need programator (was thinking about usb phoenix programator).

Also when I was browsing net I read about unlooper in articles related to the subject. Which creates another question:

3. What does unlooper do? Will I need it?

I was trying to find the anwser on the forum here, but with no result. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

First port of call for you would be the novice angels guide which most is still relevent today. That will give you some base knowledge of the subject.

1 - It is possible yes or you could go down the route of using a Fun card. Which uses a different card to the one that comes with the box (called a MOSC)
2 - Yes you will need to Cut Talk back. There is guides how to do it to the pace boxes in the aformentioned guide however if this is your box

h**p://www.pace.com/corporate/products/productDetails.asp?nav=products&productID=DCABLE-DC221KN

I've never seen one of these before so would be unable to help

- Yes you will need a Programmer, there are a few about. I've never used the Phienix but that should be fine. Maybe someone else can give you some pointers on it

4 - An unlooper is uses to unlock the MOSC as they are encrypted, and you need the Boxkey off the card to be able to progress in 'aquiring' cable. You will need one.

Thanks m8. That is the box I've. The biggy is. everything I read sounds so unfamiliar. Stuff from other planet. I was always interested in these things but never really need to do anything like it. Always like all DIY jobs, so I decide it might be an interesting experience to mess around with it.

Can you tell me more less what is involved in operation like this. And what would be the diffculty in the scale 1-10. It will give me an idea if it's worth all the hustle.
