Default Does windows 7 handle DVB-C better than TVpack 2008?

Just a question if anyone has tried Windows 7 really. I dont want to go to the trouble of tying it out if it is Folly.

Yes I can use DVBsBridge for DVB-C but because I also want to use 2 DVB-T cards it all gets a bit messy. I would be happy for W7 to use Clear QAM for now.

There are hints that windows 7 supports dvb-c in Europe (ie as a DVB-C card NOT a FAKE DVB-T )but so far no one has confirmed!

NB Windows "&" in title should read Windows "7"

BOO!

I am actually trying out SAGE TV 6 at the moment and I have to say it is fantastic.

*It supports DVB-C and CI! I have installed it and it even Suggests Virgin Services (so no Tranny file writing) It also lets me add my 2 DVB-T tuners along side the Cable one with no glitches. Looks like it recorded 3 simutanious channels when I tried, too (but havnt played back yet) You can also have a server/ client setup for your home network.

Aside from Media centre this is (SO FAR) the best TV centre I have tried (experiences vary, I know ; hasnt crashed once, everything works, step-by-step idiot proof installation, looks nice too.

OK I have only got free services at the moment so my next step is to ventre into the world of cams (cant use vplug with Sage im afraid) .

there is a 21 day free trial. If I can get my hardcam installed by then and it works, hey I might even buy this.

edit: I have read that through and it does seem like a bit of a sales pitch for sage...sorry wasnt measnt to be!

Yes, people are using Mediaportal, in fact the next thread below this one is where CafeRcaer is trying out MediaPortal - with several people already using it from the replies : _http://www.techwatch.co.uk/forums/50443-mediaportal-pros.html

Sadly, no you cannot use vplug in VMC, it's hardcam only.

Didnt give MediaPortal much of a go to be honest.

1st installation I had lots of crashes
2nd installation took a bit more time to read instructions..still crashing
3rd installation finally scanned all channels,, got set up ready to go and....no video

I gave up at this point.

NB Do mediaportal and GBPVR have the same engine - I had a similar experience with with this.

In order of success (and pleasure) I have tried the following

DVBDream - Favourite Stable as a rock but not pretty. Havnt tried with 3 tuners
Sage. - Favourite- uses dvb-c. Uses 3 tuners. looks nice. Easiest to install....channel change too bloody slow though (and no softcam)
Progdvb- works well but crashes a bit
DVBviewer - Looked nice but random Black screens put me off
Mediaportal.- Just couldnt get it to work. (seems I gave up too early as everyone raves about it) - "no signal" even though it scanned ok
GBPVR - All installed, scanned and set up fine until I actually went to live TV and got nothing but black screens and "no signal"
others- varying results.

oh And VMC. we all know about that.

Anywhoo. I should be joining the weird and wonderful world of cam owners next week so, after some furious forum digging to find out how to prog the funcard, I should be trying it with sage. Ill let you know how it goes!
