Default Updating a PACE 2000

I have a pace 2000 which I got a few of years ago which was bought in an auction. It hasn't been connected up to the feed since then. I am assuming that the software will be now out of date and I am a bit unsure about doing that. I have read that it is required to have talkback connected to update but will a certain cable co. come knocking at my door if I do that?
I also see the term "subbed box" used around the place, would my pace 2000 box be a subbed box or does it just apply to my propper/official box?

Box will update without the talkback.

For your own safety make sure the TB has been cut. Dont worry the box will update as soon as you connect it to cable feed provided it has the correct frequency.

Thanks a lot guys. I will double check to make sure the frequency is correct for my area and then hopefully I will have it going soon.

It didn't update automatically but it did update by force without the feedback connected. For anyone else interested boot holding power button till some strange text is displayed (you will know when you see it). Press favourites, interactive, tv guide, tv in that order so 4321 is displayed. Then press ok. I actually did it in the wrong order to other posts/the method above but it still worked (i got 1234 on the display).
