inb4 read the outdated haynes manual.
First you need to state which modem, then you will need the cables necessary to flash said modem. You would be better off seeing someone, maybe Bad_Ad84 for a pre-flashed modem as the price of the necessary cables is more than the modem preflashed. |

jesus christ..now I'm not one for saying 'use the search function' as I was a noob once upon a time. What did I do? Read the forums and learn what you need, all the information is there and it's not difficult to find. The question asked has such a wide range of answers too. Do your research man.

If you understand what it's like to be a noob, then why not at least link him to a relevant page in the forum?

I'm still a noob but unless you read and try yourself then you'll never understand and no amount of spoon feeding will help then. |

cablemodembible - Powered by CO.CCTry this, it should have all the answers you need.
@DODGYDAVE, Why dont you help him instead of wasting time to write your posts which are of no relevance to the subject. Last edited by morashid679; 08-01-09 at 05:04 PM. |

Erm.... I did, I provided a google link. The cable modem "bible" has lots of outdated info, and mentions software that is now no longer used or discussed on the forums. I also said above: Please indicate which modem you have. You are probably better off buying preflashed if all you are after is internet. If you want to learn how to flash anyways, don't be put off, but you need to have a particular modem in mind as they all tend to be different. A surfboard is probably the best, or a Webstar Scientific Atlanta as you can run the Haxorware firmware on them. Try steer clear of the Ambit's as depending on which one you get they can be trouble. Then you are going to need cables/converters. Such as MAX232, you can do without a proper MAX232 cable, as you can buy a prebuilt PCB with the MAX232 chip on it, all you need is a RS232 cable to connect from MAX232 to your PC and the cable to connect from the MAX232 to the cable modems internal connector. Fleabay, a tenner. (other modems may require black cat etc.) My posts are relevant, more relevant than "read the forums". Instead how about replying with: try reading this link here. Rather than the usual condescending stuff that gets posted by people about learning to search etc. You may be luck enough to be blessed with internet skills, but not everyone is. |
