Default Ambit 255 Stopped Working

I bought a ambit 255 Chipped vm modem. I connected it and it worked OK and I was getting 20mb connection for a few weeks and then it stopped working suddendly and now I get the Virgin registration page.

I still have my original modem (2mb connection) so have had to revert back to that for the moment.

Reading threads it seems that I need to change the MAC address on the Ambit 255, can anyone explain how to do this, could I change it to the same MAC address as the modem I am currently using or would that mean I would only get 2mb ?

I appreciate any help.

OK I have done as per the manual so far but I get incorrect username and password for the modem access, this must have been changed by the person who originally chipped this. How do I get around this?

If its not much hassle then try to contact the guy you got the modem off to get your username & password, they probably use the same username & pass for every modem they do

Thanks for the help so far, so I have two options then either get in touch with the friend of a friend to see if they have the username and password or

buy a max232 interface and then start from scratch flashing the modem with new firmware? If this was the case would a max232 interface do the job and would I need anything else? I guess once I have purchased this I could set some boxes up for my friends?

connecting via 232 doesnt require a user/pass and you can change the password from the command line. so you wouldnt need to reflash it.
