Default Strange problem (Belfast)

Id appreciate any help guys.

Im in belfast, was connected with a 256 on infinite. I managed to get up and running again after the config changes etc the other day. But after changing macs (I use a seperate one for torrents, porn etc) I noticed that different macs were being assigned exactly the same ip address. I thought this may have something to do with a log or something in my ethernet connection.

I tried reinstalling the connection but it made no difference. A fresh install of windows didnt help either. I tried it in a different pc and strangely it assigned a different ip on the same mac but reverted back to the original one on my main pc? Ive seen someone mentioning the blacklisting of nic macs or something and Im not entirely sure what this is?

Apart from getting alerts through zone alarm from someone in my local area on Virgin - which is a first - the modem then got booted off entirely with the ready light flashing which has never happened before. Has someone specifically targetted me or what is the craic? Seems a strange situation with the static ip on different macs, the zone alarm alert from NTL Belfast and then the flashing light on the modem?

Cheers in advance.

network card mac address determines IP address.

no.... to get a new ip you need to change the mac of the network card, or the router (depending on how you are connected).

Fair enough - Il give that programme I seem mentioned down the bottom of the page a go for changing the nic mac. Would this have any bearing on me not being able to connect at all now and the ready light flashing which never happened before??

if the modem cant connect something is screwed up with the modem, these are 2 seperate issues.

what firmware are you using?
