Question Sky handset

Happy New Year, Wizards!

I have a television and a Sky box connected to it and everything works fine - except the handset. The problem is that when I choose the Sky Option on the handset the screen goes black and shows that funny green box with the wee arrow inside it. I then press TV on the handset and I get the Sky picture. However, if I then choose the Sky option again to allow me to choose a channel I get the black screen, etc. again. The only way I can get round this is to hold the handset down behind the sofa and choose the Sky option. Then I can bring it back up and use it normally to change channels.

Clear as mud? I hope you can help.

Kind regards,

Jim

Sounds like theres a macro set on it. Take the batteries out for a couple of hours.

Failing that go down to tesco and buy a new handset for 15 quid

Hello Analoguesat,

Thank you for that. It is in fact a new handset but I had the same problem with the old one. What is a macro set?

Many thanks,

Jim

A macro is a sequence of button presses that can be programmed / executed by one or two button presses. However if you are having the same problems with two remotes then maybe you have the wrong code for the tv programmed into it

Hi,
It might be that you need to update the software in the box, as I got rid of Sly and am the merrier for it, I cannot remember the sequence that you need to follow to update it, but someone will know the right way to do it. Sorry I can't be of more help, but if push comes to shove you can always get a good second hand box on E bay. Good luck with it.

Very best regards Wez

How is the Sky box connected to the TV ? Is it via an aerial cable ? Do you select a channel number on the TV to view Sky ?
When you press the Sky button on the Sky handset, it selects the AV input on your TV, where it expects you to have the Sky box connected via a Scart/AV cable. As it isn't, the TV can only show a blank screen, with the Scart-input icon (green rectangle/arrow).
When you press the TV button, the TV switches back to its analogue tuner, where it is receiving the RF-modulated output from the Sky box.
"Hiding" the handset whilst pressing Sky, switches the handset to operate the Sky box, without selecting the AV input on the TV.
Cure: connect a scart cable between the Sky box TV out and the TV AV in scart sockets.

If the problem is despite already having a scart connection,

try some of the alternate codes for that make of TV, in the Sky handset.

Smile Sky handset - an apology

Guys,

Many apologies; I've been wasting your time. Analoguesat got me thinking when he suggested a new handset. I actually had a new handset which came with a new box. I've just continued to 'hide' the new handset believing it to have the same fault as the old one. In fact, it is working fine. What a dumplin' I am.

Many thanks for all your kind efforts to assist.

Jim

Just glad that you got it sorted, we all make some mistakes, none of us are infallible.
