Default Burning problem, help needed please.

recently the dvd/cd burner inside my sony vaio laptop stopped working.
so i goes into my local p.c shop and buy a new generic dvd/cd laptop burner.
model number ..HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T40N.
the problem im having is, the slowest i can burn music or mp3 is 10x.
far too fast for music as you know.
ideally id want to be going down to 4x, or even 1x if i have too.
the software im using is nero.
on xp home edition.
ive tried downloading other burning software, but i am getting the same thing....slowest i can burn is 10x.

any ideas guys?

thankyou for looking..

Hm...I don't recall burning music requiring slow speeds? I could have sworn I used to routinely burn .wav files at x32 a few years ago.

Having burned music CDs at 10x, have you then tried playing them in a variety of CD players?

just a couple, one in the kitchen and the one in the car...
on both players the cd works fine for the first couple of tracks, then it jumps/skips/farts/pops through tracks or i just get an error on the lcd screens and it wont play at all.
i used to do music burning and game burning a lot many years ago, and 4x was the fastest you could burn without experiencing a problem later on with the disk.

i was thinking it may be a driver problem, the new burner dosnt come with its own drivers.
cheers for reading anyway guys.

try different media. x10 speed is archaic to what speed you 'should' be able to burn at.
Also, can you test your mp3's to see that they don't exert any "jumps/skips/farts/pops " whilst being played through WMP or itunes or whatever?
To reiterate, I've never had to drop speeds like that to burn any kind of media.

wow, how times have changed, 4x was the fastest we could do.
at first i burned the mp3 files so they would play in any player, but was getting the errors ive said. so i then just kept them as mp3 as the car cd player supports mp3's..
but was still getting the errors.
no problem guys, ill persevere and try different burning software.
i did try and get a driver through google search, but to no avail.
cheers anyway.

No No No never use cheap cd's that is the main problem. Spend a pound or two more on some quality cd's and you will notice the difference. It will hold the data longer and wont jump or skip. What software you using to burn cd's?
