RTE is not available on the FTA system, only available on sat via Sky. One of the main reasons is that is if RTE was FTA then they would have a much larger potential audience and as such would have to pay more for their imported programming. Almost certain that RTE will never be FTA.
So
Option 1. Do without
Option 2. Get Sky
Option3 If you want RTE digitally then there is due to be an anouncment in March re terresterial digital transmission, but this is already available from some transmitters.Tree Rock and Mount Leinster are 2 that I know of. Something like the Technomate TM6900 super combo is a FTA receiver with an MPEG4 terresterial reciever that will work. Others will be available.

The only way to get RTE via satellite is with a Sky subscription registered to an Irish address.

This is one of the freaks of RTE getting into bed with Sly,no matter what the reason, having to pay Sly to watch your national channels via sat is robbery,
one of the reasons given is RTE would have to pay more if it were FTA,
yet thousands in Wales watch RTE terrestrial on overspill etc.

The Austria state broadcaster ORF broadcast FTA, but if a film is shown etc
they blank the screen, this could be done with RTE, but no one cares enough
to do it, also the supposed con of RTE International is dead in the water
which was just to get Irish ex pats to vote in the last election,a kind of rubber lips bounce.
RTE remain the only national state broadcaster, not to allow any viewers
to watch even its news FTA. Yet far more Irish watch RTE abroad than in Ireland via cards that Sly is happy to sell to third parties everyone in the trade knows that occurs.
I will be attending Wrexham Rail Society tonight, held in the ......... club
where RTE is available on sat, also my neighbour watches RTE.

I wonder how many people in South Ireland have complained about Freesat
being available FTA, showing BBC/ITv et all, answer only one,Sly.
Strange you watch British channel FTA, but have to pay to watch your own
national channels, Sly is a business not a friend to anyone. Too many brown envelopes around to protect Sly in Dublin.

And you only know the half of it. Like who was in the consortium that did all the testing for terrestrial digital reception. Could it be sly? What experience do they have? That is why it took so long. Ireland could have had the testing done for nothing by anyone of the companies that manufacture the tech. Also with having sly, there is a conflict of interest issue. The only positive is that we are getting newer tech. Negative, the cost of mpeg 4 electronics is more expensive. Interesting to see how that will pan out in the current climate.

Thank you Co Wicklow, now ill be very un p.c. ill be in Wrexham Paddys Club this eve(dam blown the hidden venue), call me taffy, or prat, dont care, RTE will be on all night in the snooker room, next door to our meeting.

If Sly have done the testing etc,Dublin must be running out of brown envelopes, conflict of interest Sly dont know the meaning of the word.

Well as politics go, the bigger the trough the better, one might say
Cardiff size they are the biggest.
