Default Starting from scratch

Hi
At home I use freeview ,I do use a small satellite system in my caravan ,so I do know the basics .I am going to change my tv to a flat screen one ,I also want a PVR.So I am wondering why not get a PVR with a satellite receiver built in .Any recomends on the type of box would be very welcome .
Also my wife do's not like to use things that are to technical ,so if i get a TV with freeview will I be able to use the TV on its own without the saellite box .
Thanks David .

Welcome to Tech Watch

What do you want to watch? Do you want a motorised system or fixed on Freesat? How much do you want to spend and where are you?

freesat only on fixed dish at 28e then a humax twin tuner pvr would be you easier option, plug a sky dish in and your away with fta.

if you want movies, footy, adult, amongst others then a motor would be the choice with a reciever that takes a cam or a patch.

diablo 2.3 cam would at the moment get you footy and films and some adult etc. really easy to program.

for me a pvr needs to be a twin tuner so i have a topfield tf7710hd pvr this is an high def reciever. Its ok, its moves the dish for reording, is itv and bbc hd enabled and works with the diablo (its not a patchable box) it has a 320gb hard drive. there are others that are pvr ready in which you plug a usb external hard drive in. there are linux boxes abt but i khow nothing abt linux.

could be a bit technical for the wife if she just wants an easy life

Just been reading about that box ,sounds OK .Will you please explain what a cam and a patch will allow you to do ,
would it be better to get a box that can use both cam and patch .
