The operating system will be installed on C: which will take up a large chunk. In addition any programs that you install will default to C: unless you specify D: at the installation stage.
Ideally you need to install programs on D: To free up space you may need to uninstall any large programs and reinstall on D: A little annoying really as it is a partitioned hard drive (C,D) rather than 2 separate HDDs. I think the reason that they do it this way is so that if any data becomes corrupt it can be reinstalled without losing everything on both partitions. But give me a single 60 gig C: drive any day. if system restore is turned on there could be 3 to 4 gig in there.
check you have emptied the recycle bin. open windows explorer and click on the C drive then hover the mouse pointer over the folders and see which ones are using all the space. any folders with data in like music files could be moved to the D drive |

D: will have the operating system restoration files on it so be careful what you delete off it!

As smoggy says everytime my Acer gets a Windows update it sets a new system restore point. I'm positive it does it at other times too, just to wind me up
If I don't clean up C every 2 weeks or so (depending on updates from Microsoft) I see same problem you have.Good luck, HH. |

Aren't PC World great??? Partitioning a HDD in this way. For many basic Computer user's, Most will be un-aware of the option to changeinstall directories!! True enough, PC World will Normally hide a certain chunk of the HDD for re installation purposes. Personally, anytime i have had a system from here, i always remove there installation, Grav myself a copy of whatever Windows is installed and do it to my own specifics. If i wanted a partition, Id ask for it
![]() If you have owned this laptop for a number of years without a re installation taking place, Its pretty common for you to fill the drive without noticing. If your on windows XP go to control panel and Add/Remove programs and remove software/application#s no longer used to free space. Vista is pretty similat, Except the option is Programs and features to remove apps etc...... Regards Craig |
