I currently have two satellite receivers in two different rooms fed from a single multi-focus dish with four single LNBs installed and a four-port DiSEqC switch in the loft. The second satellite receiver (Inverto Scena 5 IDL 5550S) is currently being fed from the loop through connection of the first (Dreambox 7000 with HDD).
This means that we cannot watch/record different channels at the same time. I am looking at installing four quad LNBs and two or three DiSEqC switches to provide a separte feed for each receiver, together with a spare feed - ready for when the DM7000 is updated, possibly to a twin-tuner receiver. This looks rather expensive and will require a lot of wiring (which will be ugly and difficult to hide since we live in a bungalow). I am wondering if there is a better solution - possibly using cheaper quattro LNBs and a distribution system. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks. |

It ain't ugly - if done tidily I reckon it looks quite smart - mount the switches on the wall behind the dish, upto 16 short cables from the LNBs to the switches and your existing feed cables (plus any for future receivers) from the switches.
If I get the chance I'll photograph such a system nearby and upload one here. Last edited by nvingo; 12-01-09 at 10:29 PM. |

You would have more wires at the dish with quattros. A quattro sends 4 signals out and so you need 4 wires to each so that would be 16 wires. If you go for quads, you only need a feed for each box, so 3 wires to each and your down to 12 wires.
Plus I think that quads will be alot cheaper than quattros and distribution boards. |

Using quads would certainly be the cheapest option, multisat switches tend to get rather expensive.
Also as already said, mount the diseqc switches right by the dish, then you would only have 4 wires coming into the house, with quattros you would have 16. Unless of course if you mounted the multiswitches outside in a waterproof enclosure.

As promised:
(not mine BTW). P1010410.JPG Although in this instance there are two (what appear to be octal) LNBs, this is how it should look. (image shrunk for uploading). |

Thanks for all your advice. I looks like, come the spring, I will simply have to grit my teeth, pay for the equipment and get out and install it.
