Question S*y and a teletext question

Looking for some advice-hope you can enlighten me. I have a standard S*y installation with mini dish which is all above board and legal and I am paying Rupert his monthly money. I also have a separate 80cm dish which is motorised, has quad LNB and Technomate 5200 box plugged in to a Samsung 40" HD T.V. I am looking at going for S*y+ legally, can I use two of the unused connections on the quad LNB and drive the dish to Astra 2 and do away with the mini dish?

Second question-I watch ITV 1, West Midlands, on Astra 2 via the Technomate but cannot access the Teletext facility for that (Or other) stations in the U.K. Is this normal, or is there a way round it?

I am located in Ireland, approx. 40miles west of Dublin.

Hi, you could use the Sky box on the motorised dish, but it would 'play up'. You are better off keeping the minidish. Try it if you want, and if you can put up with the consequences, do it.

I never use teletext, but the one time I did try I do remember having problems getting it working too.

Thumbs up Re: S*y and a teletext question

Thanks for the mega fast reply Robbo.
You refer to the possibility of S*y "Playing up" if I use the motorised dish. The signal strength for Astra 2 through the Technomate is well over 97% and the signal strength for S*y at the box is about halfway along the scale. I do have a spare quad LNB but I assumed that the reception would have been better for S*y through the larger dish which is giving me super quality on most Satellites through the Technomate.
It's no big deal, just an idea that cropped up-as they do, now and again.

The problem is not due to to the signal strength or dish size, but it is because the dish would be moved about. The Sky box thus loses its signal from 28E every time you do so.

Everytime you go to use it, after the dish has been elsewhere, you will get the "searching for listings" message. I used mine for a very short while like that and it became tedious. It could also cause other problems for example, if the receiver tried a software update and you moved the dish.

Hi,
To put it another way, Sly boxes are useless for anything other than sly, we don't call them dodgyboxes for nothing. They have no loop through, their symbol rate and their FEC are no use for loads of other satellites and they are nasty, cheap and cr&p.

So to put it in a nutshell, do as Robbo says or you will wish you never did anything, in the end it is up to you, but you have been warned.

Very best regards Wez

Thanks Guys for the guidance, I bow to your past experience and will leave the setup as it is.
Regarding the teletext question, I was at my Sisters in the West Midlands over Xmas and was browsing through the teletext pages relating to last minute holiday deals. Now I am back home, I wanted to have a look over here at the pages but cannot get them.
Great forum and very helpful advice-cheers.
