Default cheap xbox 360 wireless adaptor alternatives

Hi, first time im posting something on this site. Here goes!

what i need help with is to connect my xbox 360 wirelessly without buying the official xbox wireless adaptor.

i currently have sky broadband max with a netgear router which is connected with wires to my 2 computers. i have the router downstairs in my study however i have my xbox upstairs in my bedroom and i cant exactly connect a ethernet wire to my xbox.

so what i need help with is to connect my xbox wirelessly, i have no laptop so i cant connect it that way nor can i take my desktop pc to my bedroom (must remain in study).

Can you please tell me some alternatives (small budget) and where to get cheap xbox live subscriptions???

Before i forget thanks for the help

Hi there, I was in the same boat and I got myself a wireless bridge from ebay. It's a linksys wireless G and works on my xbox 360, however unlike the microsoft version it is compatible with PC, PS2, PS3 and original xbox. I got mine for half the price of the original xbox adapter and it's works far better (I know as I've had both). All you do is plug it into your ethernet cable at the back of the xbox. You can get them on ebay and I think the place I got mine from is £30 delivered (type this into ebay search: Linksys WGA54AG Wireless-G Game Network Adapter) .

As for cheap membership I got 13 months for £25 on ebay, well worth it though. Hope this helps!

hi, will the router recognise straight away like official xbox wireless adaptor. i dont really want to install drivers, i just really want to plug and play.

by the way my internet comes the phone line. sky broadband max

i have done a bit of research and have looked into powerline adapters, from what i have read they seem to connect to your router via ethernet cable and the other plug linked xbox via ethernet cable.

are powerline adaptors any good and just want to make sure will they work, i have a standard netgear router modem from sky??

I did the same as Shamster, I use my laptop as a wireless bridge for the XBox. All you need to do is enable ICS, set a Dynamic IP on the XBox and it should have access to the internet.

Well, i'm not sure about the powerline your on about but:

The Wireless-G Game Adapter provides lag-free gaming with communication speeds up to 54 Mbps when connected to other Wireless-G devices

So i'm guessing 85 would be ok. Not an expert but hope this helps. Best off contacting the seller and asking
The encrytion thing might screw everything up.
