I removed the battery from my Samsung 2100c Set Top Box as it was resetting everytime I unplugged it (Net ID, Pin etc). However, I removed the metal clips that go on either side of the battery when I removed it so I am left with three pads on the board where the battery was. What can I use to replace it? I was told that I could use the CMOS battery from a computer and solder the battery holder onto the board so that the battery can be clipped in.

sounds reasonable. i dont suppose it matters as long as its in and roughly the same voltage. do it with wires and hot glue from gluegun. (nobody is going to be looking inside it, lol!)

I got told I could use some sort of wire. I have some different types of fuse wire and also some Kynar wire which I bought to use for modchipping a couple of consoles. There are 3 points on the board - 2 on one side and one on the other, how would I go about soldering the wires together so that it connects to the side with one pad?

just drag solder over them/ dont use kynar, use something thicker. say strip some off some cat5 or maybee go thicker than that.

Yeah but how do I go about connecting the wires together because one side has 2 pads on and the other only has one :S. Would I have to strip the wire in the middle and solder onto that to the side with one pad after creating a bridge between the first two pads?

take the battery to maplins and just get a new one...
they are pretty common... anything u buy that is rechargable has these sorts of batties in, they just come in differnt sizes voltage etc... the battery will save ur settings, so i'm guessing the battery was dead and thats why it was doing it in the first place... where it has one pad, connect 1, where it has 2, connect them both to that side... or as g77 says, spill some solder over both and then just use one wire... dont see why not. if its holding charge it'll be fine. is the one you removed 3 volts?
