Hi,
I just discovered that the OS on my Compaq SR1124NX desktop is a bootleg version. I purchased the pc at a garage sale. I tried to DL the new MS security patches, but it will not take because of the bogus OS. Previously, it did take updates and the sp2 upgrade. The current OS is XP-Pro, but the Product key sticker says XP-Home. I can not afford to buy a new OS. What else can I do? |

If you can borrow a XP home disk.Reload windows with it.But use the product key on the box.Microsoft is not bothered which disk that you use,all that matters is that the key.matches the box. when you register a copy of windows microsoft check that the components in the box match those registered wit the key.
I think that I have read somewhere that microsoft Will download security patches even on pirate installations.

yes so make a backup of everything first.
is the restore cd off a similiar compaq to yours coz if not it wont work you'll need the actuall xp home disc. get one from a torrent site if u are struggling also goto compaq and download the network drivers for your pc too coz sometimes xp doesnt recognise them when u do a fresh install from a xp home disc. |

As tystar says.If the restore cd is not for a compac it will not work.A restore disk do,s not have full windows on it.
I recently sorted my duaghters compac presario by using a xp disk.no problems. Also depending how old the pc is.The restore program is on the hard drive.. When you start the computer,at the compac splash screen hammer F10 that will bring the restore program up if it is still on the hhd.(I think that it is F10) ray
