Default disk boot failure

hi am after a wee bit help, my pc was working fine yesterday and all of a sudden it restarted and went to black screen with a message "disk boot failure, please insert system disk and press enter". It is not even recognising the hard disk just my cd/rw. I changed the data cables , put in another hard disk, swap the cables and nothing. it isnt even recognising any hard disks in bios.

any ideas? thanks in advance

Does the hard disk make any weird noises such as clicks or anything?

my initial thoughts are that the HDD controller on your mb has gone. Can you try the drive in another pc?

i have tried the hard drive in my own pc and the same message comes up, "disk boot failure, please insert disk".

i take it the problem is the hard disk itself?

it does seem like the hdd is gone, but that dosen't explain why the pc won't read a differant drive. have you any surge protection on the pc ?

Have you tried disconnecting any optical drives and put the HDD on it's own master channel to see if that helps?
