Macabre.
Basically VM send everything down to your line and then just put an encryption on it. Your subscription card for tv or MAC address for broadband will determine how much of that line your meant to be recieving and will decode it.
As you see with Eurovox's they just by pass the encryption and give you all of the recievable channels.
Broadband with modded firmware just bypasses the encryption and allow you to put in someone else's VM MAC address and allows you to force a config speed file on that MAC address. Thus allowing you to get 20mb.
I always recommend that you have a minimum subscription to VM with it either being the TV or Broadband as this ensures your connection stays connected and if their is any problems just ring VM and they can sort them out.
I personally have the 2 mb VM broadband sub with them and serve that out to my brother and other devices. The 20mb Modem is just connected to my pc and doesnt share it out to the rest of the house
