I know this will make the boffins on here chuckle .
But read a few posts on here about modded modem boxes . I have a sb4200 box and pay a £10 a month to vm mainly to keep them off my back regarding cable tv. What i want to ask is that if i get a modded modem will i be able to get quicker internet speed or is that determined by what you pay a month???? Sorry for asking but i have no idea what the answer is , so thought i would ask kind guys on here for it .

You can get pre-modded modems really cheap off Fleabay.
Under £30 and you can get UPTO 20mb. Depending on your area and the mac and config you are using. Let us no if you decide to get one and we'l help you along the way

The pleasure is in the learning mate lol
have a read of the "Bricking a 250" thread, I made many school boy errors, just read all the advice given by Bad_Ad84 on the thread and if your going to use a 250/255, there's a simple tutorial written by pokerplayer.
