Emmerdale actress Sammy Winward has split from her footballer fiance David Dunn.

The news comes just weeks after the birth of their baby daughter Mia.

"There was no-one else involved, they just grew apart," a friend told the Daily Star. "Having a baby is a stressful time for any couple and they've chosen to go their own ways.

"Things are tough - they aren't really talking to each other. But they're determined to get on with things for the sake of Mia. I'm sure after some water's gone under the bridge they'll stay friends, even if the spark's gone."

Winward, who plays Katie Sugden in the ITV1 soap, was with Dunn for three years.

An Emmerdale spokeswoman added, "It is a mutual decision. Sammy and David will remain friends and their primary concern will continue to be their daughter."
