Just a quicky if testing by the radio method, not all remotes send a signal when on FM, kv doesn't, to be really sure aim remote while almost touching the speaker BUT have it on Am or MW and if ok it will defo send a bleeping noise, keep finger on a button pressed all the time, best sure method though is using a digital camera or camcorder to see the violet light also if tuned to am-mw then put a station on with a weak signal or just manualy tune radio to recieve a poor signal and then u will deffo hear bleeping if remote is ok.
AJ

ps if Stevenpc is looking at this thread then don't forget to turn yer ear in aid to full volume or you will defo not hear Rock All, plus stevpc if yer doin the digi cam test then put yer spectacles on or yer won't see Rock All.

Have tried it on AM and still nothing - but also still cannot get anything with other working remotes on the radio either. As stated before though - all the working ones show clearly through the digital camera and nothing at all from the KV remote so I think it must be the remote.

Thanks again

Aye not always sure way with radio test but deffo sure if yer done it with digi cam or camcorder, no violet light showing then remote is defo shagged.
But just try my 1 last sugestion with rado tuned at am or mw with a weak signal coming in, try a diferent remote and it should bleep if ur getin this then yer know radio will allow signal from a remote, next try kv remot, no bleep, no good.

I have tried again with various other remotes and no effect on the radio - I think this one must be immune! However, all other remotes light up when viewed through digital camera and still nothing at all from kv remote so I think its gotta be that. Have pm'd you regarding your offer jambutty thanks

Just another quicky on testing remote controls with a radio, if yer try testing it on say a midi system and aim it at the speakers then yer won't hear anything, what I should have stated was that you need an old transistor portable radio or a pocket type radio and it will defo transmit a bleep if Remote is transmitting. but putting this to bed now, the most reliable test is aiming the remote at a digi cam/corder and yer will see a violet light if it's transmitting (the human eye can not see the violet light if yer point it at yer eyes by the way) last point now is the best little gadget is a remote control sensor, yer can make these up yerself with a little circuit diagram from somewhere like Maplins fer about £2, a mate a mine who lives in Hollinwood got one made up from a guy who teaches tv repairs at Oldham college, all it is is a resistor & 9 volt battery and a RED LED in a little plastic box and when yer made it up it's a cracking little Remote controll tester and 100% accurate, no need for the long winded radio/digi cam test method with this cos not all remotes respond with a radio and not everyone has a digi camera/corder, so if ever yer wanna be 100% sure that a remote control is working then invest in this little gadget fer about £2-£3 to make up, by the way the one mi mate has that he got made up works like this Yer just aim any remote control at this little gadget (yer don't have to aim it right near the device, it has a good transmitting range and yer can be 20 yards away and it'll pick signal up) ok when yer aim it at the device it has a little red LED on top and it starts flashing when yer press a key on the remote, yer can also make one up that also has a very small speaker in the circuit and it will then flash LED and make an high pitched bleep sound)

Just to confirm for everyone that it is indeed the remote. Verified this today by trying a friend's and it worked fine.

Thanks for all the help

Will add some better info in a day or so on how to make a little remote sensor to test any remote control, cost to make it is about £2.
parts u will need is a 9volt battery, 1 red led and 1 IR RX. 1 100k resistor, all easily purchased from Maplins.
watch this space.
