What Can i get with a Sky dish ?

Hi All,

Im totally new to SKY on PC and would really like to know what other sattelites I can grab with a standrard Sky dish ?

I currently have a videomate DVB-S2 card which picks up all SKY channels and freesat but wondered if I could pick up other channels or would i have to move the dish slightly ?

Also what files would i need.

Really appreciate any help guys

Hi, yes to get other satellites, you would have to move the dish.

Depends what you mean by 'slightly'.

I would say that you have to move it a lot, by at least 5 degrees, to get another satellite that you can pick up.

Other satellites that I could get on my minidish (Not exhustive) include

13e,19e,23.5e,39e,42e,9e,5e,1w,5w,8w.

Western sats require the skew to be turned the other way, these are in my location, it depends where you are, not sure about 5e actually.

1W is barely possible on a minidish, but with careful alignment you can get some transponders, like bbc world 11325H

I thought so .. The dish needs to be moved a bit.

Any starter guides on this?

Im interested in the 9E Satelite as this has quite alot Asiaon channels as well.

do i need to buy any equipment etc?

9E is a very easy catch indeeed on any sized dish. Note - many of the Asian channels are now scrambled on 9E

Ahh ok....Do you know if you still get ARY QTV ?

Also what would you recommend as the best catch for a sky mini dish ?

No - all the ARY channels scrambled weeks ago.

FlySat Eurobird 9 @ 9° East

The pale blue channels are the fta ones.

It depends what you want to watch.

For me, it is 28E.

13e and 19E are a very easy catch too. For 19E you can get away without touching the elevation, just nudge it round a bit, for marginal reception.

Check out this site FlySat Satellite Home

Choose FTA TV and then your chosen country, it will then tell you which Free channels are available.

There's really not a great deal of FTA hd at the moment.
and apart from the usual BBC HD, ITV HD, the others have nothing on them worth watching, like Luxe TV HD, melody zen TV etc.

Heres a list that I did not too long ago of FTA HD channels, Ive not checked them lately.
