Hi. Hopefully posted in right section. I want to set up a freesat box in a bedroom but the only problem is the dish is on the complete other side of the house which would mean many metres of new cabling from the LNB which I really don't fancy doing. What I have got though is one of those distribution boxes in the loft which feeds all rooms in the house with normal aerial tv. Could I safely run a proper sat coax cable from the dish, up the wall into the loft and then using f connectors say, join this to the normal coax tv cable that is currently feeding the bedroom? This normal coax was inbeded into the fabric of the house/walls a few years ago and is a very neat out of sight job so using it for my sat signal would be ideal, but I'm not knowing if this normal coax actually allows a sat signal to travel along it? Would be a semi-temporary set up as we're moving hopefully in next few months. Maybe a silly question but I know next to nothing on the subject. Forgive me if been asked before, a link to previous answer will be great.
Many thanks Joey |

Yes it would probably be fine, just remember also not to use any faceplate in the bedroom but to either change it to a satellite-only one or connect cable from the wall directly or via f-connector extension to the receiver.
You could if the expense were warranted change the distribution amp and faceplate to ones facilitating the combining/separation of terrestrial and satellite and continue to have terrestrial reception in the bedroom too. And revert the setup before you vacate. Last edited by nvingo; 18-01-09 at 01:36 PM. |

Yes, it should work, for a shortish run. I have even seen it working well on a fairly long run as well.
But for a new diy installtion, and if there is a way round it, it is best avoided, but hey, for a temporary installation, why not!, if it works.
