Question Advice on CAT D Car

Hi guys!

I've come across a really good deal on a car - the only things is that it's CAT D damaged. I was just wondering if it was worthwhile going for and any important factors I should consider in my decision.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated guys!

Thanks in advance!

kimi.

Category A - Vehicle must be crushed. All of it.

Category B - May not be returned to road. Parts may be sold.

Category C - Repairable. Possibly structural damage. Cost of damage (at main dealer prices and labour rates) is more than book value of vehicle.

Category D - Repairable. Probably non-structural damage. May have been economic to repair, but insurer doesn't want to.

Before you buy a written-off vehicle you should consider the following:
  • Tell your insurance company about it - if you don't they may refuse a claim. It is unlikely to affect the premium you pay, but it may reduce the amount paid out in the event of a claim.
  • Have a mechanical inspection carried out to ensure it has been repaired to a high standard - an MOT certificate is not sufficient.
  • The market value will have been reduced considerably by the write-off - don't pay full price for it.
  • You may have some difficulty selling the vehicle in the future. Dealers often won't accept them in part exchange and the market for it will be limited. A potential buyer will also have the same concerns in the future as you do now.

theres a place near me does d and c, dont worry mate, most of it is just to costly... my ex gf just got a s reg puma, silver, tints all round, FSH years mot and 6 months tax....

reason for cat d, someone walked around the whole car in one line with keys and of course scatched it... £800 for car... £400 for a respray saving about £300 if she sprays it

Thanks for the info mate. Is there anyway to find out exactly why a car is cat D? Is it costly to find out? Thanks in advance! kimi.
