I don't think you need a Passkey for the 78. Try putting the drive in Mode B using the Slax Boot CD. When you see "Spinning up disk...." on screen, eject the Hitachi drive and it should continue. Once you see the Windows loading screen, eject the drive a few times so that you don't get any IO device errors. Once windows loads it should detect the drive, if it does but doesn't assign a drive letter, go into Device Manager, right click on the drive's name (Hitachi LG-GDRL3120L) and click Properties. Once the properties window appears, click on Populate, this should assign a letter to the drive and allow it to be read/flashed in Firmware Toolbox.

Blakey

Thanks very much, ill do this the weekend when more quite.

Basically my drive died where the worm screw isnt making good enough contact to make the laser unit read the disk, just makes clunking sound, so i just want to get my key and get new drive.

If i were to get new drive from say fleabay, whats the best one which are easiest to flash?

I would go with a BenQ or the new Lite-On, they read games well and they are also almost impossible to brick (I know this as I thought I had bricked my BenQ before when I got an E65 error but all I had to do was run the rben command in iPrep DOS ).
