I have a problem with my sky box.
Been having problems for a while, so my partner decided to take it upon himself to change the sky digi box........after me telling him it would not work because the card is married to the box etc, he ignored what i said, obviously because he is a man and knows best!! Now i was right and the other box did not work, so he plugged the old box in and that does not work now either. We are getting a message that says "no signal is being received"... when you go into the signal testing, the signal strength and quality are blank... the indicator is NOT locked and the two rows of information under it all have " 0000" I have been into the secret menu ( i know about this because of many many phone calls and problems in the past to sky) and turned of the LNB and reset it all. It says that No Default transponder found! ............... HELP. I have called sky, and well, chocolate Tea pot springs to mind....... They originally said turn it off for 30 seconds blah blah (first step on the flow chart of questions i assume they read from the computer screen)...... they said they have reset my box..............and will take 30 mins. I called back......... This time, they are saying that it is a problem with the dish- It was working fine until my idiot boyfriend switched boxes. Called back........... They are now saying it is the cable from the dish to the box, all that appears to be fine and plugged in properly (and into the right hole too- what an idiot thing to ask!) Called back........ They started talking about me claiming from my house insurance for a new box- yes like i am going to pay the excess and then have my premium go up next year! Can someone please help. I refuse to pay for a sky engineer to come out to fiddle with settings and then the problem still cant be fixed so i end up buying a new box (this has happened twice before)........... I really hate sky, but i live in Hull and the only option we have is Sky, otherwise i would be cable all the way. |

Hi, sounds like the problem is more with the dish/lnb than the box.
The dish could be blown out of alignment, or more likely the lnb has failed. Changing an lnb is not difficult so long as you can get access to the dish and you can pick them up on ebay cheap enough. either that or call a local sat engineer to fix it. Normally charge less than sky and shouldn't give you the same BS about what is wrong either. Sky will pair a card to a box with a phone call so that shouldn't give u a problem. I think this only matters for PPV though. My card hasn't been paired to my new box and works fine. I just have a couple of mixes, no movies or sport and never use PPV though. |

is it possible the dish has moved?
If there are a few different outputs on your LNB then try a different 1! check the cable in the attic/over ceiling maby a rat/mouse has been at it,(Happened in my house to the terrestrial Ariel lead) the more experienced guys will know better but just a few suggestions!

Assuming the dish hasnt been touched turn the receiver off, unplug it from the electric, and unscrew the cable from the back of the box. make sure the inner copper conductor hasnt got bent over, and theres no stray whiskers of copper braid touching the inner conductor.
Its also easy to unscrew the connector off the cable so make sure its firmly screwed into place on the coax. Reconnect it, then plug in (always unplug at the wall when tinkering with the lnb cable)

Just a thought - it hasnt been snowing where you are has it? Snow can kill reception very quickly if it accumulates on the dish!

All my dishes are mounted at 3-4 feet high apart from one thats at zero feet. A handbrush does fine!
(I was standing on the flower bed to take that pic!)
