Default Help Please!

Hi,
fficeffice" />>>
A few months ago my ‘friend’ got fed up with paying VM bags of money each month and reduced his subscription to a minimum i.e. free view + phone + broadband. He then through a friend of a neighbour got his box chipped, which he has happily been using without problems for several months.
>>
This got me interested and I’ve been reading many of the posts on the forum to find out more. I’ve now seen a few posts which say you should never mess with a subbed box!!
>>
I don’t know if the box (Samsung 2110c) has had talk back cut, but he can still access on demand and pays for on demand movies every now and then, which appear on his bill.
>>
Is this only a problem if Talk Back has been cut and if so how do I check if Talk Back is working or not?
>>
If this is a problem, regardless of talk back, any advice on how my ‘friend’ might get himself out of this tricky situation? What might be the consequences?!
>>
Apologies for being a nervous newbie, any help would be massively appreciated.
>>
Many thanks.

The theory goes that you should NEVER mess about with a box that is subscribed to anyone ( a sub'd box) due to the fact that its still virmins equipment, and its ILLEGAL. Plus if they ask 4 the box back and it has benn tampered with, then that will leed to allsorts of problems!
Because he is the owner of the box, and therefor pays the bills, he might avoid this action, but as a general rule it should NEVER be done.
To check the talkback status, goto the settings page in the menu, then press no 6, and look for 'DHCP STATUS'. it should say return path is off if your talkback is cut, or in your m8's case it will say Return path is on!! (NOT GOOD)!!
Regards, Beatbox

1 Hello
2 When you use Microsoft Word to spell check it adds all sorts of rubbish to your post.
3 I would think the card has been tinkered with. Make up a story say its been lost and pay them some money, £25 I think, or try to put the card back to something like original state and play dumb, not easy.

Thanks for help guys.

Just checked and DHCP Status is 'Return path is on'!

Why is this bad? previous posts seem to suggest that cutting talk back is bad as VM wonder why your box isn't talking back. Does this mean they can see that you are watching channels that you shouldn't?

If I call VM will they know that the card has been tampered with?

Yes its a bad idea to cut tb on a subbed box ,its just plain stupid to do anything to a subbed box.

yea they can tell if card or box has been tampered with.

Always cut tb & never mess with vm equipment

The box is a legitimate box so it may not throw up too many flags ie mac address etc, if the card has been 'tampered' with it will be marked and they will be able to identify that it is not correct. The friend of a freind of a friend may have just added a standard tier 8 with all channels available and charged him/her a bucket load of cash for it????

Thanks Tesla,

I think he paid £25 and had to send box and card, although TB seems to be still working.

Any other suggestions on how to get out of situation? What if he upgraded to V+?

I'm really worried... for him!

Ok, thanks for all responses its quite clear that through ignorance this is a big problem.

In terms of solution should I:
(a) cut talk back using filter, how likely is it they will come knocking?
(b) 'lose' card and ask for replacement? or
(c) arrange an accident for the box and ask vm to fix / replace?

Many thanks again.
