some people on other forums are suggesting that this can be fixed. it can't!! bigfella and jonpc are spot on. i had two of these boxes do this and with there being no rs232 socket on the back of the box you cant do anything. i sent mine back and the supplier replaced them. would recommend you do the same as you will be wasting your time trying to fix it.

Just because there's no RS232 connection on the back doesn't mean it can't be fixed. Unfortunately it can only be done by official dealers or those 'in the know'. Shame, as it would make a lot of people happier if they could fix a bricked box themselves. The problem is usually (though not exclusively) caused by unplugging the USB device before the flash process has completed. |

both of the boxes that failed on me did it during the update process, freezing at 8% complete. no matter how long i waited it just stayed at 8% then if powered off and on you get 8882. i searched for days on several forums and nobody had any idea on how to fix it. maybe the dealer can using a jtag but due to the lack of information on this particular box compared to all the other cable boxes around a home fix is unlikely in the near future. shame as i would like to know how to repair this fault as it is the only problem i have come across that i could not fix by searching the forums and asking the correct questions of the very knowledgeable people who post on these forums.

Hi Folks.
I have had a lot of experience with the Starview 4 USB. I have found that the 8882 error happens with poor quality memory sticks only & if the upgrade is interupted due to loosing power, i.e. powered cable is knocked. The 8882 error has been around for nearly 2 years now with the Pansat 250SM receiver which is also from the same company that manufacture the Starview 4 USB. The Pansat 250SM had a RS232 interface as well as a USB interface, so lucky for the americans, this receiver could be sorted using a recovery bin file. The problem that we have with the Starview 4 USB is that we have had no other option to recover, as the 8882 error corrupts the USB configuration. I have been speaking to a well known circuit maker, who will soon be releasing a recovery kit for the Starview 4 USB. The gadget will connect to the 4 block connector situated on the mainboard behind the USB module. The gadget also has a RS232 connection, so will allow you to recover the box back to life. The gadget will be similiar to the max232. I have been advised that all reputable retailers who buy direct from the importer have been given a kit that will recover the Starview 4 USB back to life. Cheers |
