Default EX5100 Hard disk problem

Hi All,

Just got my box the other day. Followed the really helpful guides on this site and have the box up and running. Thanks to all who put the help guide together.

I purchased a 120GB HDD with the box and have inserted it into the slot at the front, as per the instruction booklet. However, the disk does not seem to register. When I go into PVR I get a message telling me the disk is full or no disk is detected.

Do I need to do anything to the disk first? Presumably it needs formatting, but I thought the box might do that.

Any help most appreciated.

Thanks.

Once you have installed the hard drive, turn the power back on the EX5100. If you press the PVR button you will see a message saying "no hard drive installed or full", just ignore the message & press the record button. After recording for a short time, stop the recording. Try the PVR button again. When something is already recorded & stored on the hard drive, the PVR will bring up all the info. When there is nothing recorded on the hard drive you will always see a message saying "no hard drive installed or full".

great, thanks. I've installed the disk but I don't think I've rebooted the box since so that probably explains it. I'll give the manual recording a try.

I tried again following the instructions above and it didn't work. I took out the hard disk and looked at the connectors and it appears to be a whole load of tiny pin across the width of the disk. I looked into the hard disk slot on the box and the connector socket looks smaller than the width of the pins. Is there supposed to be some kind of interface between them? The box provider has not sent me any interface, all I got was the disk in a sealed bag and the box.

Please help, this is driving me insane!

i contacted the tech support at the company I bought the box and disk from. They have told me that there is only 1 brand of disk that slots straight in. I was asked which disk I have (Seagate) and have not received a reply.

There is definitely something missing from the disk, I'm sure there needs to be a plastic interface that the hard disk connects to, which is then used to plug into the socket on the box.

Anyone got any ideas if I am right and where I can get such a device from? I have lost all faith in the company I made the purchase from (other issues still not resolved).

Bloody hell, I've fixed it. I feel such an idiot! I wasn't lining the disk up properly on insertion! I tilted the back of the disk up and slowly inserted and it worked! Hoorah!
