Default I know nothing about satellite

I have to first apologise for my total lack of satellite knowledge, I am a cable person myself, but a friend has asked me a question. He does not live in a cabled area and was looking for a satellite box to do a similar thing to a eurovox etc. I thought these were not available but he is insistant that a dreambox or something similar will do the trick. Any advice good or bad would be appreciated. Thanks for getting to the end of the message.

There is no box that will steal Sly stuff like the cable boxes do, so in short there is no such box, not now, nor will there ever be one. Tell him that if he wants Sly in a sat box he will have to pay for it.

There is the possibility of using a Linux box and card sharing with it, but that would defeat the object of the exercise, in that he would have to have a fully paid up card to do it.

Very best regards Wez

A DB will only give you all the Sky channels if its got access to a subscription that has all the channels active on it.

Sky's encryption is secure - theres no hack for it, unlike the pathetic encryption system VM uses.

Thank you both for your input, I can now get him off my back. With the card sharing that you are talking about is it possible to share cards with another subscriber, cos he is bound to ask me. Thanks again.

Yes - either a subscription card is put in a linux box and the keys are shared across broadband connections or you buy into a commercial card server

This second route is hellish risky as you never know who is behind them - it could be Russian drug dealers, the Sicilian mafia, kiddie porn pervs, or even the pay tv companies running a sting operation.........

Whilst we will give general information on the forum, c/s is illegal and we will not help you set up any system.
