Default ex 5000 pvr harddrive prob

i have just tried to watch my pvr and it is going mental. i clicked on the program i had recorded and wanted to watch, but it just loaded a black screen (even though i know it recorded because i stopped it myself after the program was over) . i switched the box off put it back on and a green screen appeared before it returned to normal. now my tv is working but every time i go onto the 2nd page of my pvr recordings the box switches itself off. the program i recorded today has now got no name and instead looks lik this: GGGGGGGGGG it also has a red heart at the end of it as well! does anyone know what going on with it and how i can fix it?

possibly some sort of error when the digibox formatted the hard drive? only a guess, id try removing the hard drive and formatting it in windows, then putting it back into the eurovox and try recording something else, as i say its only a guess but worth a try

How do you format them in windows, connect them to a laptop? Mines similar sometimes. When left it starts saying no hard drive installed (that's when it doesn't have anything on it) when I press the PVR button. It still records and pauses (sometimes) but if I put a program on timer it sometimes doesn't record the program and on the odd occasion the box switches off. Can't get my head around it.

I had a similar problem with one of the two ex5000pvr's I bought. Problem traced to faulty HDD. Suggest you try and exchange with supplier. I managed to do this, but only because the other HDD works perfectly on both machines.

Ok i've just pressed the PVR button on my remote and the screen falshed a million different colours then the box switched off and only had ---- on the front. I had to take the HDD out and reset the box by the switch on the back, to get it to come on again. I'm going to try and switch it with the supplier.

when i come to switch on my box the hard drive whirs on and off for about 30 seconds as well. so i think i will contact the supplier. How do i format the harddrive? do i have to connect it to the cable of my normal harddrive (within the computer)?

I had a similar problem before I ever got the HDD working properly - the red heart shape was exactly what was on there, in fact. It turned out to be the hdd just not pushed home properly. It looks securely in but is only 99% of the way there with a pin or two unconnected so you get the record light on screen , everything looks hunky dory and then you get non-recordings or blank screens. Annoying as there was no way of telling until you went back to view the programme, sometimes even the name and time of the programme recorded was on the pvr menu list.

Try the simple things first, remove the HDD and reinsert it - downside with this is that it will wipe anything you have recorded thus far.

I can remove/re-insert my HDD without losing recordings. I saw that as an advantage that if it gets full you can buy another and create a library. Only if you reformat should you lose the data.

I've played around with 4 of these now. 2 x clones + 2 originals that I got supplier to exchange for clones. All would allow HDD to be removed without loss of recordings. Didn't realise there was a problem.
